Who do you back in Euro 2008?

Just to stray off-topic for a while…

Who are you going for in the Euro 2008? Why?

Me? I’m half-Dutch, so I am hoping to see Oranje lift the trophy. They had a good run in qualification, but are now faced with the hardest group in the cup: Group C, with Italy, France and Romania. Things are looking even tougher as they have to contend with injuries to some key players, including Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie and Ryan Babel. But I think they can do it.

Over to you. Where does national allegiance lie, other than Australia?

I’ve got $20 on Portugal. They have experience and a well balanced team. And the worlds best player wont do any harm.Losing the last final I think they will go in it with extra passion.

I’d be barracking for England … only one problem ! They have the best domestic teams in the world but cant find 11 domestic players to take them into Euro Championship. If we could only buy citizens (like Qatar seem to do in Asia) we might just make it next time.

Portugal for me to (this time)

Australia wil always be my number one, but my girlfriends family is Italian(the world cup was…..an interesting time) so i’ll be following them, although i dont think they will be able to do the double, spain for me looks to have the goods this year.

Can’t decide between Spain and France. Span, because Spain -> Torres -> Liverpool. France, because Marseille used to by my team during my early of school (about 22 years ago), so I always had a soft spot for France. I think might not even try to decide, I’ll just follow both. If they play each other, I’ll just go for whoever seems more deserving to win.

Italy for me even though they got pumped by the dutch this morning! If they can somehow beat Romania and France then I think Italy can go all the way. Cannavaro was a huge loss, I’m not sure if the defence will hold up. The Dutch were impressive and well organised, maybe it’s their year. Germany will always be in the final, you can count on it.

Italy of course, forza azzurri! i just hope that donadoni doesn’t make the same mistake with selections again… if he does what should be done there is no reason why italy can’t go all the way. Italy always starts off badly anyway :P

I doubt if italy will make it out of the group now, they need other resaults to fall there way unfortunately, even if they do they wont make it past teams like germany, portrugal or spain, id love to see italy do the double but i dont see it happening.

Portugal – I’m a Cristiano fan, and it is the only country in Europe I’ve spent time in. Oh… they’re also playing beautifully.

Fuckin Italy manage to scrape their way out yet again. Do doubt they’ll go on and win the thing after playing dull negative boring football.

Scotland yet again failed to qualify although at least their back to failing heroicly again rather than just being shit so I’ll be going for Spain I reckon.

Spain is going to be a tuff ask for italy, 17 games without a loss, the premier leagues best midfield with world class strikers up front and a messiah marshalling the back…..spain for the win.

On a side note im tipping the russians to take out holland….
